I headed up to Bridger Bowl yesterday to ride in the (not so) Banked Slalom at the Wild West Shred 'O' Fest. The course started out pretty much as a skied out mogul run a little wider than your traditional Banked Slalom. After about 40 people riding it, it started to smooth out a bit. I botched my first run, but came back with a solid ride on my second run. Not fast enough to beat the hardbooters who, I believe, pulled a 1st, 2nd, 3rd sweep.

We just got back from a 3 day road trip to beautiful Sun Valley, Idaho, USA to visit the inlaws and some friends. I went in expecting a overpriced mountain and pretentious atmosphere but it was much better than expected. It just happened to snow a solid 13 inches the day before and was completely bluebird on the mountain. Jenny's parents friends have been skiing there since back in the day so they knew all the good stashes. It was bizarre. The Mountain was somewhat busy and the groomers were packed with people but it seems that none of them enjoy skiing off of them. So we pretty much had fresh lines all day. The mountain has massive vertical some sweet glades and rocky lines and I image could have some pretty burly bumps after a couple of days. I have never seen the Sawtooths and Sun Valley is surrounded by an impressive array of large mountains.Check out this 360 view from the top.
The next day everyone opted to go Cross Country skiing which there was an amazing amount of in the area. I wasn't about to front another $66 bucks to ride Sun Valley again so a friend and I decided to check out some backcountry because we had heard it was legendary around Sun Valley. We called up the avalanche report and they said it was insanely dangerous. We opted just to drive out and find a mellow glade or something. Sun Valley is surrounded by some of the best backcountry I've ever seen, right off the road there are ENDLESS lines like 10 minutes out of town. Unfortunately I forgot the camera that day but it IS good. We hiked up a mountain with a pretty mellow incline in the trees. We could see whole bowls that had ripped away across the valley from us. We got near the top and did a Rutch Block Test (spelling?) and right when we cut the back the top 13 inches sheared right off. Then just a little weight and 2 other slabs ripped away.
That evening we walked around town and checked out some boutiques with $280 belts and stuff, had a pretty amazing dinner (18% gratuity included for your convenience) and checked in.
We headed back to Bozeman yesterday. Once we got in Yellowstone I decided I didn't get enough riding in and we pulled over crossed the highway and the wife and I built a little jump and got in some fresh snow. Pretty fun little rest stop.
